Patient Education & Prevention

In an effort to ensure patients are more comfortable, Dr. Lewandowski takes the time to address what you can expect concerning your condition and every step of the proposed treatment. We are true believers that preventive care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. Not only are we focused on the beauty of your smile, but we’re also concerned about your health. Keeping our office informed of any changes in your medical history will help us stay informed of your overall health.

First Dental Visit/Regular Office Visits

Your initial appointment with Lewandowski Family Dentistry is designed to be a helpful and informative guide to assist you in making wise decisions to obtain the very highest level of dental health. On your first visit, we will discover together the aspects of your oral health and appearance that can be improved for a healthier you!

We will discuss your past experiences and what you want for yourself. We will review your medical and dental history to help provide a full picture that meets your goals and objectives.

Regular visits allow Dr. Lewandowski to diagnose any problems early, monitor any areas of decay, and put together a dental plan that is appropriate for you. He will also assess the health of the gums and other tissues in your mouth.

Professional cleanings are a very important part of maintaining good oral health and keeping the gums and teeth disease-free. At your cleaning appointment, Dr. Lewandowski along with the hygienist will provide an oral examination to ensure that your mouth is healthy and free from cavities.

Pre-medication/Medical Alerts

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to your appointment (e.g. artificial heart valves/ heart conditions, artificial joints, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.). Any new medications and any illness that may impact your dental health should be brought to our attention. Patients with certain medical conditions may need to pre-medicate with antibiotics before certain treatments. We do this with your safety in mind.

Blood Thinners

Some patients may be taking a blood thinner daily for certain conditions. Please inform us if you are taking a blood thinner so we may contact your medical provider to discuss treatment. They will inform us if you are to stop the blood thinner or continue taking it as prescribed by them. Some invasive procedures your doctor may have you stop 2–5 days prior to your appointment (e.g. deep cleaning, extractions).

Light Conscious Sedation

At Lewandowski Family Dentistry we are mindful of our patient’s needs. Alert our staff if you have any dental concerns or anxiety regarding dental treatment. Together we will find the best solution to ease your concerns. Both oral sedation and nitrous oxide will allow you to communicate with us during your procedure.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a safe way to take the anxiety and fear out of going to the dentist. You will take one tablet before bedtime, the night before your procedure, and the second dose one hour before your appointment. Remember to bring a driver and someone who is able to discuss any home care pertaining to your procedure.

Inhalation Sedation

Nitrous Oxide, laughing gas, will induce a state of drowsy relaxation commonly used in a dental office. You will breathe in combined oxygen and nitrous oxide through a mask that is worn on your nose. This gas will help you relax and reduce any anxiety you may have. The effects will work quickly and wear off instantaneously by breathing in pure oxygen after your dental procedure.
